Big Move
Well, we have been anticipating our Big Move for ages now. But finally, we are in the new building! The staff, that is. I have cleared out of my office (the cabin in the garden actually) to move to a brand new room, much bigger than before. My computer is working and I have a view of the Peace Palace tower, so what more could I want? The library reading room and the Hague Academy hall and the foyer and all the other spaces in the new building, however, are not finished at all. It looks incredibly messy, but bustling with activity. Workmen are walking around everywhere with at least 40 people every day to build and to fix. They are concentrated in the reading room, fitting the new workspaces. There is a cold draft in all corridors, because the workmen leave open all doors so they can barge in and out at all times. In the meantime, they put in the new information desk, which has beautifully polished wooden sides you'd like to stroke gently. The workmen are painting the pillars in the reading room, and only yesterday they put in new lamps in the work areas. The reading room is really spacious, with at least 100 places for our visitors. There are wires everywhere while they install the wireless for the laptops. There will be a lot of books, but the shelves look very un-ready and dusty with all the building dust, and the books have to come all the way from their cleaning procedure, so are not even here yet... I am so curious about the end results, I can hardly wait!
